RCM-R® Certification Pathway

Six belts from Basic to Instructor

Progress through instruction, exams, and demonstrated project experience — from Yellow Belt fundamentals to Black Belt teaching authority.

Mastery

RCM-R® Master

This level is reserved for RCM-R® “thought leaders” who have demonstrated their mastery of RCM through practice and perfection and their own expertise in teaching and implementing RCM.

Recognition

RCM-R® Equivalency

Conscious Reliability recognizes “advanced standing” of candidates who have prior training and experience in other SAE JA-1011/1012 compliant RCM. Equivalency can place you at the appropriate step on the pathway after review.

Certification requirements

Each belt builds on the previous one. Orange, Brown, and Black requirements match Conscious Reliability’s published certification criteria; Yellow, Green, and Blue complete the official pathway roles.

  • Step 1

    Basic Certification

    RCM-R® Yellow Belt

    Foundation in the RCM-R® method — how the process works and how analyses are structured.

    • Entry point for professionals new to RCM-R® or refreshing fundamentals.
    • RCM-R® Basic (Yellow Belt) course — typically delivered as an online / hybrid or classroom program.
    • Written exam covering process steps, failure concepts, and SAE JA-1011 alignment.
    • Prepares candidates to participate in analyses and to continue toward Analyst certification.

  • Step 2

    Certified Analyst

    RCM-R® Orange Belt

    Proven ability to apply RCM-R® on real assets with documented project experience.

    • Analysts can be customer staff members or Certified Instructor or RCM-R® Consultant Partner Licensees.
    • 3 day RCM-R® basic course.
    • Written Exam
    • Project experience (these can be pilot projects facilitated by CR technical licensees or by in-house certified facilitators).
    • At least 2 projects are needed to gain an analyst certification as an “Orange Belt”.

  • Step 3

    Advanced Analyst

    RCM-R® Green Belt

    Deeper analytical skill — more complex assets, stronger evidence, and sustained program thinking.

    • Builds on Orange Belt Analyst competency with broader project exposure.
    • RCM-R® Advanced (Green Belt) training focused on facilitation-ready analysis quality and program continuity.
    • Written exam at the advanced level.
    • Additional documented RCM-R® project work beyond the Orange Belt minimum, reviewed for rigor and practical outcomes.
    • Positions the candidate to support facilitators and move toward the Blue Belt track.

  • Step 4

    Facilitator Assistant

    RCM-R® Blue Belt

    Supports live facilitation — prepares sessions, captures analysis, and assists certified facilitators.

    • Bridge between Advanced Analyst work and full Facilitator certification.
    • Candidate typically holds Green Belt standing (or Equivalency) before Blue Belt assessment.
    • Demonstrated support on facilitated RCM-R® workshops under a mentor or Certified Facilitator.
    • Competence in workshop logistics, evidence capture, and follow-through of analysis recommendations.
    • Blue Belt (or deemed equivalent) is the stated prerequisite for Brown Belt Facilitator and Black Belt Instructor paths.

  • Step 5

    Certified Facilitator

    RCM-R® Brown Belt

    Leads RCM-R® projects end to end — not an instructor role, but full project facilitation authority.

    • Facilitators can be customer staff members or RCM-R® Consulting Partner Licensees.
    • Facilitators are NOT instructors; they may however carry out and lead RCM-R® projects.
    • Candidate must be a Blue belt or deemed equivalent.
    • 2 day RCM-R® facilitator course and Exam.
    • Minimum 2 RCM-R® projects with a mentor (about 10 days).
    • One solo RCM-R® project to be reviewed by the CR mentor.
    • Once approved, the mentor recommends the candidate as a “Brown Belt” certification.

  • Step 6

    Certified Instructor

    RCM-R® Black Belt

    Authorized to teach RCM-R® programs and examine candidates across the certification pathway.

    • Candidate must be a Blue belt or deemed equivalent.
    • Black Belt Instructor training comprising:
    • All requirements fulfilled for all in-class Instruction
    • Exams applicable to Belt certifications
    • Complete 10 Projects
    • Instructor ‘Preparedness Class’ and Exam as led by an RCM-R® Master
    • Written test – ½ day.
    • Once the Master is satisfied, then the candidate is certified as an RCM-R® “Black Belt”.

Credibility

Guarantee of Certification

Instructors of all Conscious Reliability® courses must be certified as competent to teach as well as licensed to deliver the courses using Conscious Reliability® materials and methods. The path to certification will vary from product to product. Generally, the individual will progress from one level to another as they receive instruction and gain experience.

Experience must be demonstrated through execution of work relevant to the certification. For purposes of maintaining our credibility, we want instructors who we know can deliver what they are teaching.

Our courses are intended for practical application, not merely for academic interest.
